As the Summer's End (Samhain) and the last Harvest is complete we at O.W.L.S. wish All a Happy Halloween, a Sacred Samhain and a Prosperous New Year ahead. Our Little Friend Arum Lily comes forth again with yet another tale from the Faery Realm, so sit back and enjoy Her whisperings as only " A Faery Tells"
The Last Harvest has been stored up for the Winter months and all the Faeries in the Golden Glade have come to meet and celebrate as is Their Faery Custom. Halloween is a special night as it holds many Magickal Elements and Unseen Energies. The Faeries celebrate the Ancestors, they Honor the Change of Season and exchange home made goodies to Herald in the Faery New Year. The Pumpkins are carved and lit and dance with delight as they dangle from the trees. The Faeries are adorned with their favorite clothes and everyone is masked to suit their fancy. They join together and dance in circles while the music plays long into the night. The Feast is incredible and rewards are distributed by The Faery King and Queen to all the hard working Faeries who have given of their time and energy to the Faery Community.
But one year many eons ago the Festivities of the Harvest almost came to an end. That year the Harvest had not been as abundant as expected and many Faeries did not have extra food for the Winter. The root vegetables had not given a good crop. So it was decided that the celebrations would not take place. It was evryone's hope that their sacrifice would allow the food to last until Spring. It was a somber time and many Faeries retreated to their homes in sadness. The Faery Queen was very worried about Her Faeries and decided to do something to help. She disguised Herself as an old woman, dressed in long black robes and put on a huge pointed hat. She slipped away into the night with her trustworthy Owl and flew on a tree branch that She had imbued with Faery Dust. She rode for many miles into the Ancestor's Realm. Her goal was to speak to the Ancestor Faery Queen. Once She arrived it did not take Her long to find Her. They spoke long into the Night about many Magickal Secrets and Solutions for Harvest problems. They sipped tea and ate cakes until finally the Ancestor Faery Queen told Her to hurry back to Her own Realm before the stroke of Midnight or else be trapped there forever. The Faery Queen had all the information she needed and once again used the tree branch to fly quickly home. That very night the Faery Queen went out into the fields and started to plant pumpkin seeds and sprinkled them with the Magickal Dust according to the knowledge and wisdom received from the Ancestor Faery Queen.
The seeds began to grow quickly and within a few hours there were pumpkins everywhere. She called on all the Faeries to wake up and Harvest this new vegetable. Later that day She gave everyone several recipes to use and pies, cakes, muffins and breads were stored up for the Winter. The Celebration that Halloween night was extraordinary. The Pumpkin was honored by being carved and lit and is still done to this day. The Faery Queen's disguise of an old woman became very popular and it too is still used in both the Faery Realm and the Human World today. As for the Trustworthy Owl and the Magickal Branch well do I really have to say more......they are worldwide symbols of magic, wisdom and lore. Have a Magickal and Wonderful Halloween and I promise to have another story soon as only "A Faery Tells".
